Today, I would like to talk about this Japanese commercial:
Target audience
Since it was spoken in Japanese, this commercial is for someone who lives in Japan and can understand Japanese.
This commercial is the caution for people who is renting money or thinking to rent money from financial institution.
Also, people who is too lazy that they will be late to pay back money is the target audience.
Authority
Actually, this commercial didn't use anything but cup and water, so they din't rely on authority so much.
At the end of this commercial, it shows several names of financial institution, such as Takefuji, Akomu, Puromisu, Sanyousinpan, CFJ, GE consumer finance. These are the main financial institution in Japan.
Emotion
This commertial uses dark colar, dark back ground music, and low spilit voice to tell audience it is scary thing to rent money too much and not to pay back immediately.
As you can see, the light is blinking when the water is to be flood. This image can also effect people to be serious about money.
Logic/Imformation
In this commercial, you can see that the finacial institution can lend you money, but it will corner you into collapse of household economy if you rent too much.
Evaluation
The dark appearance and sound plays a big part in makes it serious.
On a scale of 1-10, I would give this commercial 8.
Though it uses just cup and water, I think it is pretty easy to understand. And this commercial tells us the money is not the thing that you can lend or save easily, so you have to rent, use, pay back deliberately before it will be too late.

I've never saw this commercial actually.
This is such a scary commercial and it was kind of hard for me to understand at first.
However, since it is serious problem, I think this is good.

I had been thinking this commercial were about environment problem when we talked together. I don't know why I was thinking so.
But, I like this commercial because we have to know seriously that too much loan will destroy our living.

I also agree with you on the role of the cup and water. It's simple but enough to make sense.
That metaphor makes it easy to understand how horrible it is to rent money too much.
